First look unveiled for an upcoming Funko POP Mario line?

For the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros, which came out in 1985, Funko has a little first look at an new brand of the Funko Pop toyline, The 2 toys also have been leaked, with Mario as normal and Mario with Cappy, according to Kotaku. These are the first two Super Mario Bros POP figurines to have Cappy and they look great. This means there will be more to come.
The new style is more cartoony than the original designs, and this has me wondering if Nintendo was not happy with the old one. Perhaps Nintendo is trying to distance itself from a completely cartoony look like the Super Mario Bros designs had in the past.
