On the afternoon of February 18th, 2022, the Elmore County Police Department received a call involving a car accident on Kowaliga Rd in front of Piggly Wiggly in Eclectic. When officials arrived on the scene with paramedics, it had been discovered that four children had been hit by a vehicle while trying to cross the street. They were immediately transferred to Elmore County Hospital Intensive Care Unit, where they are being currently being cared for. Unfortunately, due to their conditions, it is not expected for them to survive.
The vehicle was empty when detectives arrived on the scene. When witnesses were interrogated, some had reportedly seen a suspect in the driver's seat "pounding a handle of liquor," and "smoking a meth pipe." Another witness added that the suspect looked "wack as f***." An APB was released soon after.
Around 8 PM, police and detectives followed a trail of footprints into the woods across from the grocery store, and police were able to track the suspect down. With the help of surrounding Police Departments, they detained and identified 28 year old Tanner Dooley of Eclectic. Dooley failed to cooperate with police interrogation, refusing to take a sobriety or drug test. Once at the station, Dooley failed every drug test. He is being placed in custody without bail until further notice.
