During the shooting of the last season, an adventurer got lost on the Fiji Islands in Polynesia. During the five-hour orientation test, the adventurer did not return to the beach at the same time as the other candidates. When the candidates and the production realized his absence they called a rescue team.The show was in danger of a big penalty, which is why the secret was never revealed.
Nevertheless the adventurer decided to come out of silence to denounce the lack of security of Koh-Lanta on a famous French channel "TF1". He said he was only found a week after his disappearance: "I was counting the days, I stayed a week alone in the middle of the forest. I thought I’d never make it". Many helicopters flew over the island in the hope of finding it alive. A rescuer found him in the middle of the forest lying on the ground in critical condition.
After his return to France in his native region, Brittany he was hospitalized for a month. A doctor said, "It’s a miracle to have this man living in the middle of a forest full of dangerous animals and mosquitoes. A few more days and this man would unfortunately not have had the physical strength to survive". The family of the victim wanted to prosecute the production of Koh-Lanta, however the avanturier refused because he admitted to having his share of responsibility in his disappearance : "I was blinded by the desire to win this event that I lost the reason. I did not respect the imposed safety zone".
He does not want to sue the show because he broke the rules. Koh-Lanta will face major sanctions, they face a fine of more than 100,000 euros for failing to comply with Article 25, Rule No. 146 of the French Film Distribution Act.
