Today Cohasset Police arrested David Bigley, aged 71, after receiving an anonymous tip. Bigley was caught in Wompatuck State Park off Doane Street after a brief pursuit from police and the K9 unit. He was tending to nearly a full acre of young marijuana plants that he was cultivating on state owned lands.

It's unsure if Bigley was growing with intent to distribute his cash crop, or if he was simply a heavy smoker. Felony and/or misdemeanor charges are pending the outcome of an investigation by Cohasset detectives.

Bigley, a popular retired resident known for wandering Cohasset Village in search of a cold pint, has been getting an outpouring of support from local residents who claim he only smokes in the privacy of his home, or at local pubs, or churches, or anywhere else he chooses to light up.

Bigley is being held on $420 bond.
